Natalie grew up in the Central Coast north of Sydney. Like Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue, also participated in the television series Neighbours (Neighbors) before beginning her singing career.

In April 2005, Imbruglia released her third studio album Counting Down The Days in the UK, which reached number one in sales in its first week. The first single from this album was Shiver. This became the single most durable in the UK since its debut. The second single was "Counting Down The Days, released on 25 July, although it was less successful than Shiver, managed to maintain interest in the work of Imbruglia, dominating the airwaves as above.
